Ordhill Cottage a traditional stone built cottage in a truly splendid position, on its own in the forest just a few miles north of Loch Ness with Inverness just across the Firth. A typical Scottish country home in a forest clearing at the end of Ordhill forest track guarantees you peace and tranquility.
All the forest birds and creatures are right outside your door, you simply have to look out of the window to see the wildlife. Should you wish to go for a walk there are numerous forest paths leading straight from the door. All this makes it hard to believe that you are so close to Inverness and its amenities.
The large beautifully secluded garden grounds are securely fenced to keep your pets safe. The forest is used for orienteering, but also has many waymarked footpaths on your doorstep. You will have unlimited scope for birdwatching and walking.

Ordhill Cottage is very tastefully furnished and decorated country style with a welcoming log fire in the sitting room. The farmhouse kitchen with the Aga stove and cosy dining area provides a very warm intimate atmosphere for enjoying those wonderful meals that you will cook on the Aga!
There are two double bedrooms upstairs, continuing the country theme with country style decor and furnishings, the coombed ceilings give added character. Other features: Oil fired central heating, double glazing throughout. Pets are welcome, the garden is securely fenced. Bed linen, Electricity, and a bag of logs are included in the price. We have fed Red Kites in the garden during winter, they nest very close by so they are regularly seen in the garden area. Fox, Deer, Pine Martin, Red Squirrels and an endless variety of wild birds. If you set food out for them you're sure to attract many varieties.
There are Shops , Pubs and a Post Office at North Kessock just 2 miles walk through the forest. The Moray Firth is spanned at North Kessock by the Kessock Bridge. The A9 crosses here. You can see Dolphins most days either from the shore or the dizzy heights of the bridge. There is a Dolphin and Seal observation centre above the village where you can even listen to them by underwater microphones. It is also a Red Kite centre with a camera set up for nest viewing.
If you like to walk either alone or with your pets then there is an endless web of forest paths and tracks, marked and unmarked for your pleasure. The forest is a very peaceful place to be in and even inside the cottage you will feel this.
The fishing villages of the Black Isle are very picturesque and well worth a visit - especially Cromarty which is very pretty. All the beauty of Loch Ness is just a short drive away and both sides of the Loch are worth visiting.

Pets are very welcome but we would ask you to keep them off the furniture at all times. At no times should your pets be allowed upstairs. This ensures that all guests enjoy their stay at the cottage. The garden must be cleaned up after your pet. A charge will be made for any extra cleaning that should be required because of soiling in the house or garden.
We know that your pets will enjoy their stay here and be very safe. Our dogs have always loved it in the forest. In the event of you requiring a vet for any reason you will find one at Inshes - The telephone number can be found in the information folder at the cottage.
Guestbook
"Ordhill is located within spitting distance of Inverness above North Kessock and yet is totally ’in the wild’. To be able to walk out of the gate into what seems to be your own private forest (not many folks about in October) with a miriad of paths and tracks is wonderful. The cottage itself is homely with a large secure garden and everything you might need, and if you take food for the birds, you’ll have them aplenty.

" What a brilliant week we have spent at Ordhill Cottage. It was perfect for our 2 Newfoundland dogs who loved the large, secure and very private garden (with lots of wildlife). There are walks through the forest straight from the cottage so perfect for dog walking. Also the cottage is only 10 mins drive into Inverness for anything you need. Over the Easter week we saw only 1 person, so if you want to get away from it all this cottage is an excellent choice. The cottage itself is cosy and homely" - Tammie stayed at Ordhill April 2007
"Ordhilll exceeded our expectations, the location was out of this world, the remoteness of this cottage up high on the Black Isle surrounded by the woods and stunning views of the Moray Firth along with the closeness of Inverness town and amenities was amazing.
The dogs had a WONDERFUL time at Ordhill, they were cosy in the Kitchen by the Aga of a night time and whizzing round the garden and surrounding woods like lunatics by day, not forgetting us all collapsed infront if the wood fire of an" - K. S. stayed at Ordhill Jan 2008
"Ordhill is delightfully private and secluded, in the middle of a wood, but is still extremely close to Inverness, so it’s handy when you feel like a dose of civilisation. The cottage is beautifully decorated and much more homely than any other cottage we’ve ever stayed in as it is, in fact, the owners’ home. The Aga was great fun and the dogs loved it just as much as we did.
We’d be more than happy to return for another visit.

This cottage was absolutely beautiful. The garden was a joy (even in November) and despite one of our dogs being quite the escape artist we could be assured she was completly safe in the large garden as the fencing was very secure. So many personal little touches made us feel very welcomed at this cottage.Thank-you very much to the owners for their care and acceptance of dogs at their property
" - L.E. stayed at Ordhill Nov. 2005
"What a gem! Set in the forest it a very secluded peaceful cottage. All mod cons. Dogs spent little time in the cottage. The secure garden means that they spent most of their time outside( Both dogs enjoyed the freedom of the forest..although there in last week of july I encountered a total of 5 people during the week.
If you are looking for a relaxing, get-away-from-it-all place to stay I would recommend Ordhill.
