  Built around 1750 Fern cottage is famous for being a childhhood home of JRR Tolkien. This is the first time this propery has ever been available as a holiday let. It has undergone a substantial refurbishment to a very high standard, without losing the original features. Fern Cottage is located at the foot of the Lickey Hills, ideally situated for touring the region.

Once you arrive, you will feel like you are in another world, there is a definite magical charm about this place...why not come and see for yourselves!

  Set well back with the Lickeys above, the side of the cottage runs parallel with the road, the front of the cottage is situated overlooking the garden making it a very tranquil place.

Entry is through the front porch into the dining room, to the left is a separate sitting room with a real fire and a three piece leather suite.

To the right of the dining room into what was the old nail makers forge is the kitchen with vaulted high beamed ceilings, solid wood units, fully fitted to the highest standard with a large fridge freezer, oven,hob,dishwasher and microwave,everything you need.

To the rear of the ground floor is a large family bathroom newly created complete with a rolltop bath and a separate shower, high quality fittings throughout. there is also a utility area and a cloakroom downstairs.

Upstairs are three bedrooms, the main bedroom has vaulted ceiling a super king size bed a wardrobe, chair, dressing table with mirror and a bed side cabinet, with enough room to have an extra bed if required.

The second bedroom shown as a single, can be made into a double, this does reduces the floor area and the chair would have to be removed.

The third bedroom has two single beds one full size, one is 5'10" in length 3' in width so perfect for children.

There ia a wc upstairs off the landing area.

The gardens are large and mature a magical wonderland, they back onto the Lickey Hills, which is reachable from a pathway just a few hundred yards from the cottage. From the top of Lickey Hill you look out over the golf course, the countryside and the city.

There is a paved seating area to the front of the cottage where you can sit and enjoy a glass of your favourite wine or beer. There is a barbeque so it's easy to dine alfresco!! There is more seating at the back of the cottage which is a real suntrap!

Fern cottage has a gated drive with ample parking for 6 cars. Just an amazing place to stay!

  1 Double Bedroom, 1 Twin Bedroom, 1 Single Bedroom. To fit a single z bed in the main room you only have to remove the comfy chair. One of the beds in the third bedroom is only 5'10" in length by 3' wide, the other bed is a full size single.
Bathrooms:
  1 Bathroom, 1 Separate WC. The bathroom, furnished with new sanitary ware and fittings in keeping with the cottage, We provide towels and toiletries for your use. We ask that towels are not used for cleaning boots etc.
Kitchen:
  Cooker, Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Freezer, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Iron. The kitchen has been refubished with all new modern appliances. we hope we have provided everything you would expect in a kitchen, this includes utensils, pans, corckscrew etc...if you want to cook!
General:
  Real Fire, Central Heating, House Linen, Towels Provided. There is a real fire in the lounge however the fireplace in the dining room is only for display. Linen is provided during your stay however we ask that you do not use the towels to clean shoes.
Dining:
  Seating for 8. The dining table is set to seat 6 but can be extended to seat eight, enough chairs are provided. We provide enough crockery and cultlery for the dining of eight guests.
Entertainment:
  Terrestrial TV, DVD, Radio, CD System, Board Games. We have provided a small library of books dvds, cds and games for guests enjoyment.
Outside:
  Garden, BBQ, Parking, Garden Furniture. There is a paved garden seating area, a nice place to have a drink and relax... there is a barbeque to assist you in making full use of the large secluded garden.
Suitability:
  Children Welcome, Not Suitable For Wheelchairs, Sorry - No Pets Allowed, Smoking Allowed.
    Smoking not allowed inside. The stairs and parts of the garden at this property are steep this makes the cottage unsuitable for the elderly infirm, in addition children will require supervision.

Fern Cottages location is such that you can enjoy the tranquil seclusion whilst being close to great transport links.

You are close to many attractions and other cities, Startford, Warwick, Worcester, Oxford are all with-in 45 minutes or less this includes Bleinhem Palace and the Malverns. There are numerous museums, heritage sites, places of interest all around us.

There are many theatres, the RSC in Stratford the Alexandra, Hippodrome, Symphomy Hall to name a few in Birmingham. The Malvern theatre in Malvern. We provide brochures for many theatres in the cottage.

There is the NEC which has a full calender of events, concerts, exhibitions, this is where Cruffs is held and you don't have to drive there it has it's own train station with regular links to the city.

If you are searching for things for children there's lots, the West Midlands Safari Park Severn Valley Railway, Millienium Point (science museum), Ragley Hall, are really close, Drayton Manor, Alton towers theme parks and Twycross Zoo.

Most childrens favourite Cadburys World is only 5 miles towards the city.

If you are looking for a much more tranquil day you could visit the Lickey Hills country park and have a wander through the woods, take in the views that reach Malvern, take the children to the adventure play area or through Bilberry bluebell woods. In springtime a carpet of blue covers the woods floor, what a sight!

What about kite flying on the top of Beacon Hill, you can watch the skilful parafoil flyers on a windy day or have a go at flying a kite yourself!

What about a round of golf, Lickey golf course was the first municipal course in England, there are also tennis courts a bowling green and duck ponds. The Rose and Crown pub is here also and it serves Sunday lunch.
