This exclusive and privately owned chalet located in the lovely Bixquert valley is surrounded by mountains known locally as the 'Beverley Hills' of Xativa yet has easy access to the medieval town of Xativa with its fountains, shops, supermarkets, boulevards and friendly cafe society only 2 km away by car. Access on foot or by bike is via a shortcut down the hill nearby.
Xativa is a welcoming and historic town, the capital of the Costera region of Valencia, famous for its orange and lemon orchards. Within the town, there are classic mediterranean complex of narrow old streets, churches, museums, squares and the Castle, home to the Borgia Popes, towers above Xativa and is floodlit by night.
The famous Cova Negra site (with findings of pre-historic man) is 1 km away. It is situated in a pictuesque river valley offering scenic walking/hiking as well as picnics and rockclimbing.
The tennis Club of San Patricio, only 100m away is open to non-members, also serves inexpensive and tasty food with a wonderful view of the castle floodlit at night.
This is also a convenient and comfortable base to explore the vibrant City of Valencia and its striking 'City of Arts & Sciences' with the largest aquarium in Europe.

Local activities in and around Xativa, Valencia - Costa Azahar
Xativa is a welcoming and historic town. Hanibal watered his elephants here and Neolithic people, the Romans and the Moors have all made use of the strong defensive position now occupied by the superb castle which dominates the town, and repays the walk up, through lavender, olive and pine. The old city walls enclose the lively old town, the remains of the roman city and higher up, the EU Bioreserve on the slopes to the castle. Within the old town, with its mediterranean complex of narrow streets, there are old churches, little squares and fountains, restaurants,cafes and a huge cathedral built by the Borgias, Spain's only Popes, who came from Xativa. There is a large market, 3 swimming pools, 1 indoors, a great museum and a modern Gran Teatre as well as a newly rebuilt grand bullring/cultural venue which hosted Elton John recently.
Xativa has a strong cultural programme (details from the very helpful Tourist Office (email: touristinfo.xativa@turisme.m400.gva.es or tel: 0034 962 273346). Its the tradition of festivals and fiestas which really make Xativa special. Most months one parish or another will celebrate their Saints Day. The whole town takes to the streets for the big events with brass bands, processions, street parties, bonfires and fireworks. Fallas 15-19 March, Easter, Corpus Christie around 13th June and Three Kings 6th Jan. The biggest event is the annual Fira 15-20 August! 2007/8 is for Xativa the Valencian version of 'City of Culture', called 'La Llum de les Imatges, with and special exhibitions throughout the year.
Xativa's pedestrianised streets are lined with traditional, family-run shops selling everything from hats, shoes, bags,wedding dresses and fans to wonderful cakes, fresh bread, local vegetables, superb meat and a wonderful selection of fresh fish in every supermarket.
Xativa is a great place to sample the real Spain and a great centre for exploring the superb mountains and the Mediterranean coastline and sandy beaches.

- Drive through the spectacular mountains on the way to see the Monastery at Simat or on the way to the beach.
- Drive or take the train to Valencia, City of Arts & Sciences, designed by Santiago Calatrava.
- Go for a boat ride on the Albufera. See the beauty of sunset ov er the lake. - Spend some time at the Estany lake in Cullera and try an arros negre (rice in squid ink) at midday. - Play a game of golf in any of the five courses located in Valencia province. Enjoy your favourite sport in an exceptional climate. - Enjoy nature at its best in the Alto Turia district. - Visit the animal reserve of La Serratilla in the mountain near Benageber, climb the Remedio peak in Chelva, or hike through the ravines formed by the river Turia.

- Stroll through the old city centre of Valencia, visiting the Lonja, now listed as World Heritage, the Central Market, the Cathedral, the Palau de la Generalitat, the Palace of the Marquis of Dos Aguas, the Serranos and the Quart towers. - Visit the IVAM, the La Beneficencia Cultural Centre and the Museium of Fine Arts to admire their outstanding art collections and exhibitions. -Stroll around the old port of Valencia - host to the America Cup for 2007 & poss 2009. Dine in one of the many outdoor restaurants in the walking streets of the old town. - Visit the Oceanographic and the largest underground aquarium in Europe with many other exhibits such as penguins, sea lions, whales and dolphins as well as tropical fish. The modern architecture rivals the Sydney Opera House.
