Coast/Beach The nearest beach is at Baleal which 4.5 miles away, 10 minutes by car. The long stretches of sand around Peniche and to the north and south of them are all excellent beaches, the majority of which have Blue Flag status. Sao Bernardino, Consolacao, Medao-Supertubos, Cova de Alfarroba, Gamba and Baleal Norte are all Blue Flag beaches, they do have toilets, parking, bars and restaurants.
Golf Only 9 miles away, 15 minutes by car you will find Praia D'El Rey Golf and Country Club. The golf course itself is a links course that stretches out to sand dunes on the seaward side overlooking cliffs and pines. It is an award-winning 18 hole championship golf course designed by American architect Cabell B Robinson.
Also, nearby are Botado: This 9-hole course is an integral part of the Atlântico Golfe Hotel on the sandy beach near to the fishing port of Peniche. Vimeiro: This 9 hole course is attached to the Hotel Golf Mar and is part of their facilities. Golden Eagle: It's known as Quinta do Brinçal or Golden Eagle, this course is located close to the town of Rio Maior.
Obidos Once the wedding present of a queen, the preserved medieval town of Óbidos lying 100 km north of Lisbon is without doubt one of Portugal's most classic walled settlements. Walking the ramparts, visitors can enjoy views of windmills, vineyards and surrounding farmlands. In the residential area below, narrow cobblestone streets are lined with whitewashed houses sporting terracotta roofs. The shops are piled high with local handicrafts, while in spring the town is ablaze with geraniums, morning glories and bougainvillaea.
Berlengas Islands Access to the island is by boat, with departures from Peniche harbour. It takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Berlenga Grande. You can return in the evening or spend the night at the fortress. There is also a restaurant on the island.It is a marine reserve and has been classified by the Council of Europe as a "Biosphere Reserve".
