Conwy Castle and Town Walls
Conwy is one of the finest examples of a medieval walled town in Europe. One of a string of fortresses built in the 13th century for Edward I, the castle, high upon a slab of Welsh rock remains pretty much intact.
Trem yr Afon overlooks the garden of Plas Mawr, possibly the best preserved Elizabethan town house in Great Britain. Built by Robert Wynn between 1576 and 1585, it dominates the town with its gatehouse, stepped gables and lookout tower. The interior with its elaborately decorated plaster ceilings and fine wooden screens, reflecting the wealth and influence of the Tudor gentry in Wales, has been almost entirely restored.
Beautiful gardens over 80 acres overlooking the Conwy River. Bodnant is famous for its fantastic collection of Rhododendrons and Azaleas and of course the Laburnum Arch, at its best in early June.
5 miles from Conwy lays the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno. Offering beaches, shopping, restaurants, bars, world class theatre, a stunning Victorian Promenade and a dry ski slope with toboggan run. The Great Orme is home to a Bronze Age mine and Neolithic burial chamber. The summit can be reached by road, cable car or historic tramway.
