Local activities in and around Roquetas De Mar, Almeria
There are plenty of activities on offer, both in the town and beyond. Roquetas de Mar is a beach resort with plenty of pleasant cafes and tapas bars along the beach front and in the town, including Bar Spinnaker, right on the beach front which serves international beer, and has barbeques every week. Activities such as fishing trips, waterskiing and jet skiing can be arranged, and there is a long promenade, perfect for leisurely strolls.
There is a marina in the town with very nice seafood restaurants nearby. On the edge of town there is a waterpark (open Summer) and on the other side, a saltmarsh nature reserve where birds such as egrits and flamingoes can be seen.
There is a large shopping centre 4km away with a hypermarket for all you shopping needs, and local supermarkets 500m and 2km away, as well as a weekly market for bargain hunters.
Golfers are very well catered for, with a top 18hole course at Playa Serena, just 2km away and the 120hectare course at Envia golf, a short drive or walk away.
The Cabo de Gata national park is a short drive away and is very beautiful and unspoilt.
The city of Almeria is also a short drive or bus ride away, and has a great deal of charm and is steeped in history. It is located at the foot of a mountain range which is crowned by the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Caliph of Cordoba.
Drive inland, to the Mini Hollywood area where a lot of Westerns were filmed, and you will find spectacular desert scenery and further afield are the mountains of the Sierra Nevada and The Alhambra at Granada.
This year there is the Creamfields music festival on the beach at nearby El Ejido-the next town so near enough to visit, but far enough away to still be peaceful!
