On an organic small holding above the coast of Asturias, El Balcon is our most recent renovation and the cottage everyone has been waiting for. Sitting alone above the rest of the farm El Balcon enjoys a private setting amid pastures and forest. It has been beautifully restored with exposed stone walls, high wooden beam ceilings, beautiful tiled and chestnut floors and fantastic views. Sunny and cozy it is a great home away from home with a woodburning fireplace in the living room for enjoying cooler evenings. In quiet surroundings, just up from the coast and beaches, enjoy the rural setting and the ocean views.
El Balcon has been completely restored and is now an attractive, comfortable holiday home for 2/3. The cottage is on two floors, furnished with a mix of antique and new pieces. Downstairs is the suntrap porch which leads into an open-plan living/dining room with a glass doored wood burning fireplace and a sofa bed. The well-equipped corner kitchen is tiled and easy to work in with a full size refrigerator and a 4 burner cooker with oven. Upstairs the bedroom invites with its large queen-size bed, en-suite bathroom, spacious washbasin and sitting area. The large balcony is off the bedroom and offers unending entertainment as you watch the weather change over the valley and ocean beyond. Not one but two lighthouses can be seen at night.
Easily reached by foot yet just far enough removed from the rest of the cottages this is the perfect place for couples who want to relax or even need a quiet place to write and work. It is also a perfect settig for those with a small child or baby. You won't feel you have to apologize to anyone when the baby cries. We have a baby cot and bedding available.

Bedrooms:
1 Double Bedroom. The upstairs bedroom occupies the entire floor along with the en-suite bathroom with the washbasin in the room itself. The balcony is just off the bedroom.
Baby cot with bedding available.
Bathrooms:
1 Bathroom. The en-suite bathroom is small with a toilet and shower while the washbasin has been placed in the bedroom offering spacious counter space, lighting and mirror.
Kitchen:
Cooker, Hob, Fridge, Freezer, Washing Machine, Iron. The kitchen is very well equipped with 4 gas burners and an oven. The tools you need are all available for even the most demanding chef. Anything you miss can be provided since we cook ourselves.
General:
Real Fire, House Linen, Towels Provided, Internet Access. All the bed and bath linens are provided for your comfort to include beach towels. The cottage is heated by wood and firewood is provided. 3G modem internet coverage. No need for Air Con in Asturias
Dining:
Seating for 4. We have provided a generous wooden counter in the kitchen for dining in which seats 4. However, you will probably find yourself most often dining on the covered frontporch. The table there seats 4+.
Entertainment:
Terrestrial TV, DVD, Radio, CD System, Board Games. In our resource center we have an assortment of games, English and Spanish books available as well as wildlife guides and topographical maps, a variety of CDs and DVDs for your enjoyment while here.
Outside:
Terrace, Garden, BBQ, Parking, Balcony, Garden Furniture. Walk the old trails that lead from the property to include the famous "Camino de Santiago". Set up the deck chairs for a day reading and watching the chickens go by. Slow down and enjoy the view.

The house sleeps two comfortably but can accomodate a child on the sofa bed downstairs or we can provide a cot and bedding for a baby.
Local activities in and around Luarca, North West
Enjoy our peaceful setting or in just 5 minutes find yourself choosing a beach or a restaurant. In 20 minutes you can visit the fishing ports of Cudillero or Luarca, both offering a variety of places to eat and shop. Go inland and see the more traditional areas where dairy farming is still a way of life. Throughout the summer every town has its festival dedicated to its patron saint with live bands, children's activities and competitions. Market days are not to be missed in certain towns and the flea market in Gijon and Oviedo on Sundays can be fun.
In the area, you'll find horseback riding, walking trails, wildlife viewing, hunting, fishing, Celtic ruins, museums, sightseeing, shopping, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, canoeing and kayaking. Boat tours leave out of Cudillero. We will help you make any arrangements.
The cities of Avilés, Oviedo and Gijon are all less than an hour away by car for nightlife, museums, cultural events and shopping. You may also take the narrow guage train in. www.feve.es
Asturias has numerous natural parks all of which are worth a visit. Somiedo, Muniellos, Redes and Picos de Europa.
Brittany Ferries
Brittany Ferries will bring you from Plymouth to Santander. 2.5 hours away by car.
Easyjet will bring you to Asturias, Bilbao and Madrid from London Stansted for less than you think. They also now connect Madrid to Asturias with more than one flight a day. We are just 30 minutes from the Asturian airport.

Rental Notes: NB: We live up a steep unpaved road which can present a challenge the first time up for those unaccustomed to mountain driving. Everyone seems to get used to it but if you can't manage there is space to leave your car at the bottom or along the way up and walk.
This property has 3 other vacation rentals sleeping 2, 2 and 6 and can be rented in conjunction with El Balcon should you wish to vacation with a larger group or another couple. In July and August check-out time is 10:30 am and check-in is 4 pm. Please check with us if you need other arrangements. For short stays of 3 nights or more outside our high season please contact us.
A Welcome Pack is included in the price. It consists of wine, coffee, teas, bread, milk, sugar and eggs (when our chickens cooperate).
