This beautiful Chateau d'Aune is situated within private grounds on a hilltop in the Charente region of France, 5km from the town of Chalais. Food and wine is central to the way of life in this region. There are numerous small towns and villages to explore and sample local cuisine or visit ancient castles, churches, museums and lots of outdoor markets.
The Chateau d'Aune was rebuilt in the 19th century on the site of the ancient residence of the Seigneur of Dougnes and during the '90s it underwent complete restoration and refurbishment. Despite its proportions, it has a cosy feel, with charming pepper pot towers adding character to the pretty façade. The facilities at the chateau are superb, including a heated pool, 'plexipave' tennis court and riding stables all on site.
The Chateau d'Aune can sleep up to 10 adults & 2 children in its 5 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. 3 hours of maid service per week is included in the rental price.
A large hallway opens onto spacious and comfortable living areas with beautiful fireplaces and a well-equipped kitchen; there are two WCs on the ground floor. The dining area can seat up to 12 and there is also a study and TV room with satellite TV on this floor.
All the bedrooms are on the first floor and have en suite facilities. The master double bedroom has two double beds, a connected dressing room in the tower and a Jacuzzi bath. All the bedrooms (4 doubles & a twin) have been tastefully furnished with much attention to detail. There is also a chapel on the first floor.
The Chateau d'Aune enjoys beautiful views over wooded hills and boasts 5 hectares of grounds accessible to clients. There is a large park and an independent building which houses the swimming pool (with security alarm for children), two showers, two WCs, a built-in barbecue and a bar. The fitness/games room is also located by the pool. The private tennis court has plexipave flooring. The pool is heated to 23°C free of charge. There are also stables and a private heliport available. The caretaker lives in cottage within the grounds but does not use any of the facilities at the chateau. You will not know he's there!

The nearest airports are Bordeaux (70km) and Bergerac (50km). The nearby town of Chalais is 4km away where there are shops and restaurants, as well as a Monday weekly market. The area is rich in Romanesque architecture, with fine examples in Aubeterre (10km) and Angoulême (54km).
There is horse riding 11km away at Laprade; clients can bring their own horses (stables on site at the chateau). Clients can hire a helicopter to the many golf courses in the Cognac and Bordeaux areas. The surrounding countryside offers endless opportunities for running, hiking and cycling, whilst local rivers, streams and lakes offer fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and even a small lakeside beach.
