Villa Kournedes sits above Gavalohori village with fantastic mountain and sea views, located a short distance from the village centre and 5 mins from the beach. Perfectly located for privacy and local facilities.
To one side is a luscious green valley framed by the rugged "White Mountains" with the valley leading the eye to the sea view across Souda bay. The villa is set back in cypress trees and accessed directly from the road by its own private drive.
Villa Kournedes is built on three levels: The ground floor has a spacious living room overlooking the large 40 sq m private pool, fully fitted luxury kitchen and cloakroom with WC. The first floor has three double sized bedrooms each with its own en-suite bathroom. One has a large bath with shower (great for younger children.) The large roof terrace is ideal for private sunbathing and/or having drinks while taking in the commanding views.
At night the sparkling lights from across the bay are simply breath taking.
The private villa (new in summer 2008) sits on a large plot. It is very comfortably furnished and surrounded by Cypress and Pine trees. The landscape looking along the valley to the sea is a vibrant contrast of lush evergreen trees against the deep reds and browns of the mountains (snow capped in the cooler months.)
With no neighbours to worry about, you can relax in the privacy of your own large swimming pool, with superb views, hearing the occasional ringing of distant goat bells in the valley below. Although it is private, the property is less than a mile (1.5km) from the centre of the ancient village of Gavalohori with mini markets, tavernas and pastry shop. Its also less than 5 kms from the blue flag -child- friendly - sandy beaches and watersport facilities of Almirida and approximately 30km to the Venetian port of Chania.
The three bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom, have views of mountains and/or the sea - imagine waking to breath taking views every day! The bedrooms have large terraces with ample space to sun bath. But if you really want to get away from it - walking up the gated, external staircase to the roof terrace provides you with even more surprises. Overlooking the treetops the views are in a league of their own. (One local describing them as "better than a tonic!")
All rooms have air conditioning and central heating so that you will be comfortable whatever time of year you stay. The lounge leads directly onto the swimming pool terrace via a large, shady veranda with feature stone seat wrapping around the building. A further veranda, off the well equipped kitchen, provides an ideal breakfast area with scenic views. The lounge has an integrated surround sound DVD, CD system that allows iPods to be connected (and charged) so you can listen to your favourate music or use those provided. USB devices connect to play media files.
A digital safe, large enough to store a laptop and/or valuables, provides security and peace of mind.

1 Double Bedroom, 2 Twin Bedrooms. Twin bedrooms have luxury Danish beds that can be locked together (to form a king size) or separated to accomodate singles. All linen is 100% cotton. Pillows are plump anti allergic micro fibre.

1 Bathroom, 2 Showers, 1 Separate WC. Each bedroom has its own ensuite for complete independence. Each with shower, one being over a bath another with walk-in shower with body spray. Solar panels heat the water with electric backup.

Cooker, Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Freezer, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Iron. Fully equipped designer style, light oak kitchen with black granite worksurfaces. Complete range of crockery, utensils and glassware. Plastic glasses are also provided for use by the pool.

Maid Service, Air Conditioning, House Linen, Towels Provided. 100% cotton bed linen and towels. Maid service and towel/linen change on arrival and midweek (Apr to Sep)
Pool towels and cotton robes are provided but not changed during the stay.

Local activities in and around Gavalohori, Crete
Gavalohori sits at the end of a green and wooded valley leading the 3.5 km to the sea at Almirida. The village is renowned for keeping ancient Cretan traditions alive, including manufacture of hand made lace, silk, pottery and honey.
It offers a wide range of facilities, English spoken in shops and restaurants and yet retaining the Cretan charm in danger of being lost in other locations of TV reknown.
There are 3 cafenions in the village. There are also two small supermarkets, stocking a good range of fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables, bottled, canned and frozen goods to stock the villa freezer. They also sell home brewed raki (the local spirit of choice) and locally pressed olive oil. The village also has an excellent bakery, open all hours and offering a wide range of breads, hand raised cheese and apple pies.
Watersports are available at Almirida beach. Scuba diving in Chania. Horseriding in Georgeopoli. There are many walks in the area to enjoy plus plenty of birds.
The sandy beaches at Almirida and Kalives all have great facilities including tavernas coffee bars, beach bars supermarkets and chemists. Nightlife can be found in Almerida with its numerous bars, Greek tavernas and cafes.
Chania, with its Venetian port, is an easy drive, whilst Rethimnon, with its characteristic Turkish minarets and attractive harbour and leather markets, is 25 km along the coast in the other direction. Sandy beaches abound, offering watersports, safe family swimming or horseriding.
Chania, a personal favorite of the owners, with its Venetian Harbour and old side streets has a wonderul atmosphere and ideal for a meal or a boat trip or sit with a coffee watch the world go by. There are museums, a superb indoor market and many shops to browse in. A great city and highly recommended.
The south of the island is only 30 kms away and you can enjoy wonderful views of the mountains and have a relaxing lunch overlooking the Askifoo Plateau on the way there.
