Local activities in and around Tenterden, South East
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, set within the picturesque village of Wittersham, "capital" of the Isle of Oxney, which was an island surrounded by seawater, this exclusive property offers rural tranquillity, whilst sporting a unique and contemporary edge. Part of the village is a conservation area, and boasts not only an attractive 13th century Grade 1 listed church and the tallest post mill in Kent offering superb views from the top floors but also a CAMRA award wining traditional English pub serving superb real ales, and the food is reportedly excellent too!
The village hosts a Community Market every Tuesday where local fresh produce and crafts are available or alternatively pop along to The Chapel Down Winery in Small Hythe, the largest producer of English Wines where you will find Kentish English food and drink, including a range of award-winning wines. The main shopping centres are only 5 minutes drive away in the market town of Tenterden and the quaint town of Rye with its cobbled streets. Both abound with antique shops, art galleries, museums and plenty of delightful tea shops, quirky old inns, country pubs and restaurants.
Exploring the delights of the area seems endless as Romney Marsh is one of the most magical regions in England. Drive down winding lanes you’ll discover unique little villages and secluded seaside towns. A nature lovers paradise, the footpaths are a fantastic way to discover the wildlife and enjoy wonderful views of unspoiled countryside and the quiet flat country lanes provide an excellent location for gentle safe cycling. Along with fishing in the Royal Military Canal, lovely sandy beaches at Camber, the miniature steam railway that chugs along the coast from Hythe to Dungeness your holiday memories will last a lifetime!
