Old Bansko is an attractive traditional Bulgarian town. In the nineteenth century it led the national cultural revival that led to independence from the Turks and so many of its old buidings have been preserved and it was spared the excesses of communist architecture. A number of these buidings have been converted to Mehanas or inns where it is still possible to eat a decent 3 course meal with wine for £5.00. Food and services are very cheap in Bulgaria compared to Western Europe especially of course if you stick to places where Bulgarians go.
The climate is continental, being cold in winter and warm in summer like Russia and countries to the east. In this it is unlike the maritime climate of the Alps and Pyrenees and so snow is more predictable & exists at lower levels. The ski season lasts from December to April.

The highest lift is2560 metres. there are 16 lifts and and 70km of marked pistes and all the usual facilities- ski hire ski school etc.There are a few black runs, but more runs for novices and intermediates.
Pirin Lodge is 300 metres from the gondola and within walking distance of the old town. It is one of the more established appartment hotels, having landscaped gardens, an active owners group and is managed by the german/bulgarian company that built it.
Every appartment has a fireplace, a kitchen, central heating and is accessed by a lift or stairs.They share common facilities managed reception, bar/ shop/ internet cafe, laundry room and wellness centre. This consists of Jacussi, steam room , sauna .and massage centre. Ideal for the releif of muscles after a hard days skiing Pirin residents also have access to the pool of the nearby White Lion Hotel.
The skiing is great, but the summer season is wonderful. The country side is full of wild flowers. Farmers still use horses for haymaking and hauling.The mountains are part of a Unesco listed national Park, where you can go walking,horse riding, mountain biking, white water rafting or play golf in the many courses in the district and the nearest grecian beech is 3 hours drive away!!
Sofia is the nearest airport. BA flies there from Heathrow, Whizzair from Luton Easyjet from Manchester or Gatwick.Transfers can be arranged to and from the airport by our management company who will also make sure the appartment is ready for your arrival and answer any questions you may have as will the helpful reception staff.
