This is a lovely, comfortable and well furnished single storey cottage that is ideal for a peaceful relaxing holiday.
It is located in La Jonchere, a village just 7 miles from the beautiful coast at La Tranche sur Mer. It is deceptively large, with 4 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms, and ideally suited to couples, friends and families with older children who enjoy wildlife, beaches, walks, watersports, exploring villages and sampling the wonderful local food & wine!
Birdwatching is excellent in this area. There is a lovely garden, with lots of flowers and trees, and a big south facing terrace, surrounded by lavender bushes. Fields of sunflowers near the village are stunning in July/August.
The cottage is located in the South Vendee, in the Micro Climate area famed for having as many sunshine days as the Cote D'Azur.
The local vineyards produce excellent wines, and freshly caught fish and seafood features on most menus. It is a wonderful place to do as much, or as little, as you like.
We use the cottage regularly ourselves, so it is equipped with lots of little 'extras' that you don't always find in a holiday property.
Little things like beach umbrellas, books and magazines, Hairdrier, Cool bag and blocks, toaster, teapots and Loo rolls make all the difference!!
The 4 bedrooms and 2 separate living rooms make the accommodation very versatile, and the largest bedroom also has a big table, and a TV with video, so can be used as a second recreational area if required - our teenagers bring their games consoles and use them here, leaving the lounge free for others.
The cottage has electric heaters in all the rooms for out of season breaks, and 2 separate water heaters, so there is always plenty of hot water. There is also a log burning stove in the lounge.
The Village of La Jonchere is very quiet, with a small shop open in the mornings, but it is close to Angles, a busy small town with shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, a tourist information office, street markets in the summer, and various evening entertainments throughout July and August. La Tranche sur Mer is a busy seaside town just 7 miles away, with lots of activities, restaurants etc.
There are lots of other interesting places around and about, we have the best of both worlds. Nearby there are vast white sand beaches backed by sand dunes and Pine forests; river walks; the Venise Vert network of green canals and cycle paths, and harbours, bays and fishing ports.
Les Sables D'Olonne, Lucon & Talmont are less than 30 minutes drive and La Rochelle, and the amazing Historical Park at Puy de Fou are within an hour.
For those who like real excitement, there are watersports, high ropes courses, and Go karting close by, which are open between April and October. There is a new swimming pool with a water chute in La Tranche sur Mer.
Lots of Tourist Information about these and many other things, is provided at the cottage, as well as information about shops, places to eat etc.

Cooker, Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Freezer, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Iron. The lovely light kitchen has a new electric double oven with grill and gas hob, big family fridge/freezer and all the crockery, glassware and utensils you could possibly need.

Real Fire, Central Heating, Telephone, House Linen, Towels Provided, Internet Access. Bedding can be provided subject to a small laundry fee. Wifi internet is included, and you can receive phone calls. Electric central heating throughout, and a log burning stove in the lounge.

Seating for 10. There is a very large dining kitchen with a round pine table which seats 4 - 6 comfortably and extends to seat 7 - 10. There is also a large table and chairs so that you can eat outside!!
Entertainment:
Video, DVD, Radio, CD System, Board Games, Table Tennis. No TV (deliberately!) but lots of DVD's, Videos, Games etc for a real escape.
There is a good table tennis table, dart board, body boards etc and 3 full size bikes. Tennis, Riding & Golf nearby.
Outside:
Terrace, Garden, BBQ, Parking, Garden Furniture. The house has lovely gardens on 3 sides, with lots of shrubs and trees. A large number of birds have been seen in the garden, including Hoopoe, Spotted Flycatcher and long eared owl.

This cottage is best suited to couples and families with older children. It is a renovated cottage, so narrow door widths, & no walk in shower may present a problem for people with mobility problems.

La Rochelle and Ile de Ré
Within an hour's drive, these offer a fantastic day out. The aquarium, castles and museums at La Rochelle are fascinating, as are the arcaded shopping streets, and lovely restaurants. The Ile de Ré has lovely harbours - St Martin de Ré is delightful - beautiful beaches and miles of cycle paths. Johnny Depp reputedly has a holiday home here!!
Puy du Fou and Cinescenie
An amazing Historical Park with 5 huge spectacular shows to see during the day. The Cinescenie at night is famed throughout France. There are a limited number of performances and they must be booked in advance. Audio translations for both attractions are available in English. www.puydufou.com/uk/
Venise Vert
A fascinating network of tree lined canals with can be visited by car, bike or special canoes. There are pretty canalside villages like Coulon, and great Abbeys like Maillezais to visit.
Port Bourgenay (20 minutes drive)
This resort has a superb golf course, and a par 3 course too. There is a lovely beach nearby, and towards Les Sables D'Olonne a horse racing circuit which has trotting races on certain nights through the summer.
Birdwatching and Wildlife
This area is fantastic for Nature lovers. The Bay of Aiguillon is a stop for literally millions of Migrating birds, and the Marais is home to Stork, Hoopoe, Sacred Ibis Bluethroat and many others. There is a Nature Reserve with an excellent hide fully equipped with telescopes. Wildlife walks are available in summer through the local tourist office in Angles.
Adventurous Activities
There is a fantastic High Ropes Course in Moutiers http://www.indian-forest-atlantique.com/, a Go-Karting circuit at Angles, Horseriding, Surfing, Windsurfing, Sand yachting and sailing at the coast. Canoeing on rivers and lakes.
Wine Tasting We are very close to several excellent vineyards, and we have enjoyed many tasting visits!!
A car is essential for a stay at this cottage. Detailed driving instructions sent out when you book. St Malo 3¼ Hrs drive, Caen 4¼ and Cherbourg 5¼. Or fly to Nantes or La Rochelle and hire a car.

Rental Notes: Changeover days out of the main summer season are flexible providing the property is vacant. In July and August, changeover day will usually be Thursday to take advantage of cheaper ferry crossings and flights. This is negotiable! Please get in touch to discuss options. Stays of part weeks may also be possible - please enquire!
Payment can be made by cheque or paypal. A deposit of £100 will be requested at the time of booking, with the balance to be paid 8 weeks before departure.
Please note that for the convenience of all our guests, smoking is not permitted inside the cottage.
