Nestled in the mountains below the Sierra Tejeda National reserve, is the picturesque Andalucian village of Canillas de Aceituno. 50 mins from Malaga airport and 20 mins from the coastal resort of Torre del Mar. The village has a typically Moorish layout with narrow, winding streets of whitewashed houses, decorated with bougainvillea, jasmine and geraniums. On the hillsides you will see olives, almonds, citrus, figs, vineyards, white triangles which form headstones for raisin drying beds and a light dusting of white buildings.
If you are looking for a restful holiday but wish to be handy for the airport, this could be the place for you. The buzz of a coastal resort, is within twenty minutes drive. For nature lovers, the local Sierra Tejada National Reserve is on your doorstep.
The villa follows some of the traditions of the old 'cortijos'. It is a simple, unpretentious dwelling, with high vaulted beamed ceilings, pine doors and window shutters and has the traditional large carob tree shading the centre of the terracotta-tiled patio, (excellent for shade in summer).
The villa is supplied with town water and electricity. Bottled gas is used for heating, water heating and the cooker hob. There are two gas heaters and a fire but you will find the villa cold in bad weather if you are used to central heating. For this reason we do not generally let it out in the cooler wetter months although we can do so if requested.
The kitchen is well equipped with cooking and tableware, including electric kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, food processor and coffee maker. There is a 4-ring gas hob, a combination convection/grill/microwave oven, a fridge/freezer, an iron and board, and all the necessary cleaning equipment.
The bathroom has bath and simple shower, WC, bidet and basin. All bedrooms have large built-in pine wardrobes. There are duvets for winter, blankets for cooler weather and just sheets for summer. There is a fan for each bedroom.
The dining area has a large extendable table and six chairs. In the sitting room, you will find many books, games, cassettes, a few CD’s and a CD/tape/radio system. An information file will be left out for you. We have elected to have no TV, for greater relaxation and sociability and there is no telephone.

Local activities in and around Vinuela, Costa del Sol - Malaga
Relax, wander, swim, watch for birds,chameleons, flowers, stars , do some serious walking, explore local bat caves and water sources.
You can shop and eat in the village or drive to Velez or Torre and try 'menu del dia' any lunchtime for a good cheap eat with local flavour. Drink fresh mineral water from the running fountains at the town hall and climb there for a wonderful view of the village, mountains and sea beyond.
For the lively, there are 1 or 2 discos, most popular with ‘the youngsters'.
If you want a beach, then take your pick according to your needs: swimming, fishing, body-boarding, snorkelling, diving, pedalo, jet ski, nudism….. The coast is there for you to explore.
If you are lucky enough to be in Spain in July – August, you may catch the Horse Fair, funfair and food fair in Torre or the traditional village Flamenco Fiestas in Alcaucin or Canillas. July also sees the International Festival at Nerja Caves (ballet, opera, flamenco) and the International Jazz Festival in Almunecar. ‘Siestas’ strongly recommended!
There are many other festivals throughout the year and you should look on the web sites. You may also like to go on a dolphin ‘safari’ (book ahead), in Gibraltar or a diving course in Nerja or Herradura (Marina del Este).
If you enjoy shopping, markets, selling excellent fruit and veg, pottery, clothes, shoes etc, are found on Monday: Torrox Costa; Tuesday: Nerja; Thursday: Torre and Velez, Friday: Almunecar.
Other attractions include Nerja's fantastic caves, the ancient town of Antequerra (castle, olive oil museum), hot springs (Alhama), trout (Rio Frio), Easter processions in Velez Malaga and the Passion Play (Rio Gordo), 1000s of flamingos (Fuente de las Piedras), Granada (Alhambra Palace), Picasso Museum (Malaga), Ronda, Alpujarras (Driving Over Lemons) etc etc

Rental Notes: SMOKING outside only please. Reductions for more than 1 week and for returnees. Add 10% for parties of 5-6. Arrival 16.00hrs, departure 10.00hrs unless by arrangement. Please contact the owner for availability and more information. Change-over generally Saturdays but negotiable.
Sheets and towels are provided but please take your own towels for pool and beach.
You can arrange laundry if necessary, with our caretaker, for a small charge.
Logs should be purchased by the guests.
Renters must ensure that they have insurance. The owners will not be responsible. Please be aware that hazards exist: eg cacti, pool, household chemicals, calor gas etc and children should be well supervised. Please also be aware that carelessness with cigarettes, embers etc which are thrown outside, present an extreme fire hazard.
