The House, Fell House - Converted Victorian Grain Warehouse
House with 4 Bedrooms, Sleeps 8
It is very difficult to know where to start to describe The House, it is so unique. Accommodation is provided on two floors. The whole of the ground floor is open plan, but contains an enclosed stairwell in the centre. Clever use of doors enable part of this floor to be used as a fourth bedroom, raising the number of guests that can be accommodated in The House from 6 to 8/10.
The entrance to the ground floor is through the arch and large porch area at the front of Fell House. The indoor reception has a stone flagged floor, and a spiral staircase leading to the upper floor living area. The stone floor makes it suitable for coming into the warm with muddy boots, or for safe storage of bikes where they will not damage the flooring, whatever state they are in!
The main lounge has a natural-effect fire in its feature stone fireplace, and large comfortable sofas. A TV & video are provided for entertainment

The most unusual feature (for holiday accommodation) about the lounge area, indeed about the whole of The House, is the space – there is a full 20 square metres, enabling all the occupants of Fell House to be able to socialize together in comfort. From both the back of the lounge area, and from the reception area, passages pass the main stairwell. Behind the stairwell, the reading area/fourth bedroom is reached. Used as a reading area, it contains further seating and shelving, enabling some quiet time away from the main room. If, however, it is required as a fourth bedroom, a double futon bed is laid out and ample hanging and cupboard space is provided. Doors separate this area from the reception area, meaning that it can be left set up as a bedroom throughout your stay without affecting the main living areas of The House.
Moving upstairs via the spiral staircase, the upper living area is reached. This contains the kitchen and dining area, but is large enough to offer a further space to enjoy. The pitched ceiling has the original beams in place, with light and ventilation being provided by several Velux windows, which catch the sun at all times of the day. The kitchen is well equipped, with twin sinks, gas hob, electric fan oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble-dryer and dishwasher. This area also has a hi-fi that can be switched to the lounge, so bring your favourite CDs and tapes.
Leading off from one side of the upstairs living area is the first bedroom. This is a split-level room, with a double-sized metal bedstead adding even more character. This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. A door on the other side of the upstairs living area leads to the central stairwell; off this are two further bedrooms and a shared bathroom. These bedrooms both have a king-size double bed that can be split to provide twin beds if preferred. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite shower room.

Local activities in and around Sedbergh, North
Sedbergh is a small market town in Cumbria, with a wealth of history. It developed as the natural meeting place of several ancient highways, being at the confluence of four rivers and four dales. If you follow Howgill Lane out of Sedbergh, it starts to follow the route of an old Roman road as it enters the Lune Valley.
The name Sedbergh is believed to be a Scandinavian derivation of "flat-topped hill". This could refer to Castlehaw, where the Normans built their defences against the Scottish in the 11th century. In the intervening years it has since developed in that beautifully unco-ordinated way that towns should. Many of the buildings in Sedbergh are of historic and architectural interest.
You must not fail to investigate the alleys and yards just off the Main Street. The town centre is small, but contains traditional shops that provide all of the essentials required. There is also a Dales National Park tourist centre to help you to decide how best to spend your time in and around Sedbergh. Should you feel the need of some "full-on shopping therapy", however, the major centre of Kendal is only 10 miles away.
Naturally, there is much to attract those interested in the countryside. The Howgill Fells are accessible directly from the house. They offer much good walking, and have many bridleways for the mountain biker. The pretty Dentdale is to the south-east, Dent itself being about 5 miles out of Sedbergh. The Dales Way leads through Dentdale to Sedbergh. Garsdale leads east to Wensleydale, one of the great Yorkshire dales. Hawes, "the gateway to the Dales", is 14 miles away.
The valley of Cautley (home of the waterfall) runs north-east towards Kirkby Stephen. The Lune Valley runs from north to south, passing Sedbergh just to the west of the town. This leads to Ingleborough, a centre for caving in the Western Dales. Finally, of course, the Lake District with its magnificent walking and climbing lies to the west, Windermere being about 20 miles away.
