Yr Olaf - Lovely converted stable with fabulous sea views
Cottage with 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, Garden
With spectacular sea views and panoramic sunsets, this area, frequented by dolphins, porpoises and seals will leave a lasting memory of Yr Olaf. Perched on the seaboard of Snowdonia National Park, this is an ideal base for beach holidays, walking, sea fishing and sight seeing. For those seeking just to relax and unwind, why not take a walk from the patio area, along the private cliff path, to the secluded shingle beach below the house, where your only company is most likely to be herons, Oystercatchers and cormorants.
Situated between Tywyn and Dolgellau, this period stone cottage is one of a group of three cottages set in two acres of former farmland perched between the mountains of Snowdonia and the Bay of Cardigan. The properties have been completely refurbished in 2004 to a high standard.
Yr Olaf is furnished in a contemporary style reflecting its light and airy situation. To take advantage of the glorious views, the lounge/diner and kitchen are on the first floor with bedrooms and bathroom downstairs on the ground floor. The ground floor entrance leads into the hall with stairs. There is one double bedroom and one twin (convertable to superking-sized bed). Shared shower room.
Upstairs the landing leads on to the lounge/diner, kitchen and cloakroom. The lounge/diner has a feature fire,TV and home theatre system with a French door opening onto the raised decking with southerly aspect. A patio table and chairs are provided. Steps off the decking lead to the private lawned area and parking. Access can be gained easily from the garden to either floor.
Directly ahead on the horizon is Bardsea Island, where the view extends from the Lleyn peninsula in the north to the Pembrokeshire coast in the south. On the beach you can search among the rock pools as silvery fish dart and disappear. A Peregrine Falcon might fly by or a school of porpoises break the surf. You can build rock and driftwood sculptures decorated with seaweed and shells. Listen to the screech and squawk of seagulls or watch as a seal peeps it’s head through the tide and rolls then disappears.
With sea still as glass, the waves might barely trickle to the shoreline, on another day they crash with such power great thuds sound from underwater as huge boulders are tossed and turned. Even in the winter sun, when the shadows are long and rays filter through the mist that hovers over the crest of the waves, the mood has soft focus. Here you can imagine hundreds of thousands of soft words from distant time blown with eddies and squalls across the sea, to crash against the shore, only to then disappear with the spray. As the evening draws near the sun will dip to the horizon and vivid colours fill the view.
Time to light a barbeque and star gaze. Yr Olaf, a place of contemplation.
