Elm is a country-style cottage set around a pleasant landscaped courtyard. This cottage has views across the courtyard to the fields beyond. The bustling town of Stranraer - with it's excellent selection of shops and supermarkets, seafront park with miniature railway, boating lake and crazy golf, the leisure centre with swimming pools and the skateboard park - is just two miles away. The cottage however is situated in a quiet and peaceful countryside location surrounded only by fields.
The picturesque harbour village of Portpatrick is just four miles away. With it's sandy beach and variety of gift shops, inns and restaurants, putting green, tennis courts and clifftop walks Portpatrick is ideal for a day without travelling too far.
Slightly further afield are more beautiful beaches, forests drives, gardens (incl. a botanical garden), visitor centres, castles, golf courses and sea / loch / river fishing.
Elm cottage has two twin-bedrooms - the larger of which offers the option of either a double (with king-sized bedding) or twin beds. Both bedrooms have built-in wardrobes with pine doors. Clothes hangers are supplied together with extra blankets for those chilly nights. Heating and cooking is all electric and storage / wall panel heaters are located in each room.
Sky TV, a DVD player and radio are provided, together with a selection of indoor games and books, plenty of tourist information to help you plan your days - including a selection of our own tried and tested walks, drives and cycling and horse-riding routes.
The vestibule / porch is ideal for storing outdoor clothing and boots. Secure overnight storage for cycles can be arranged and an exterior hosereel is available for rinsing muddy cycles or hiking boots.
Adjacent to the cottages is a secure playing field - equipped with a playcentre for children and a garden box with outdoor games - including badminton, cricket, boules, football, frizbees, bats and balls etc.
Guests are welcome to sit out and enjoy the courtyard, gardens or playing field. A BBQ set (which includes everything except the food!) and a pack of local O/S maps and walking books worth over £40 is also available to use for a small donation which will go towards our annual donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in Manchester.
Pets are not accepted inside the cottage. We can however supply free summer grazing for horses and parking for horseboxes or trailers - plus free use of our 40 x 20m sand menage.
There are numerous riding routes along beautiful sandy beaches and forest tracks and there are 14 access points to the Galloway Forest with parking for boxes and trailers.
