The small Castle with a tower was built in the 12th century and is located on the edge of Umbria, 500 meters from the border between the small village Petrignano del Lago (Umbria) and Valiano (Tuscany).
This property really is something else. It is excellent value for money and there is so much to do in and around the local area or you can just sit and relax in the wonderful grounds.
Surrounded by vineyards, sunflowers, and inspirational views of the Tuscan landscape, the owners Antonella and Massimo, former stewards, have created a paradise like haven for themselves and their guests. After they decided to retire from flying over ten years ago, they bought the castle (at the time in ruins), and lovingly restored it so that single rooms or the entire castle can be let.
The fact that Massimo is an artist will be apparent to you. His offbeat woodwork, sculptures, and paintings enrich the atmosphere of the castle including, of course, the individual rooms. You may visit Massimo in his studio anytime; he will gladly explain his work to you. In the large garden, you can relax under the trees, listen to music or have a barbeque whilst you chat over a glass of regional wine.
There are four wonderful rooms available to let at I Palazzi and there are 2 rooms that cater for 2 person and a further 2 rooms which accomodate 3 persons. A room can be let on its own or the whole castle can be let sleeping ten persons in total. During the months of June, July and August the castle is only available to let as a whole.
Room 1, Professore can sleep three persons in total and has one bedroom with a double and a single bed. The room is also fully inclusive of a bathroom with shower, bidet and WC.
Room 2, Cassa Forte can sleep two persons in total and has one bedroom with a double bed. This room also has a bathroom with shower, bidet and WC.
Room 3, Gemelli again has one bedroom but instead of a double bed it has two cast iron single beds, which can be placed together to make a double if desired. The room is fully inclusive of bathroom with shower, bidet, WC.
The forth room, the Suite is, as the name implies the largest room and has a private dressing room connected to the bedroom. The bedroom has both a double and a single bed.
The en-suite bathroom for the Suite is situated in the old tower of the castle and is fully inclusive of a bath, bidet and WC. This bathroom really is wonderful with its fantastic lighting and unique charisma.
Both the Gemelli and the Suite have an interconnecting doorway so both apartments can be joined together if required. This option is ideal for a family of four persons.

Local activities in and around Montepulciano Stazione, Tuscany
Many activities take place in and around Lago Trasimeno. It is Italy’s forth-largest lake measuring 22 km across in diameter with 11 individual beaches.
Around the lake one can enjoy water sports, walking, cycling. The area is famous for its wines, olive oils and home made pastas. . Excursions on foot or by bicycle pose other opportunities to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and countryside. There are 8 public bathing sites at Lake Trasimeno. From there one can take the ferry to 2 or 3 islands, go for walks or perhaps follow in the footsteps of St.Francis of Assisi on Isola Maggiore.
Castiglione del Lago is one of the most beautiful medieval towns by the lake. City gates and walls dating back to the middle ages surround the picturesque old town, which includes a piazza, a fountain, and a Castle. There are many restaurants to choose from and the town's exquisite shops have much to offer. There are many smaller shops, selling typical products from the region. There is also a large supermarket and a weekly market, and is well worth a visit. The men typically gather on the piazza and gossip while the women casually shop.
Excursions to Florence, Rome or Perugia are also possible. You may reach these by car, however we suggest a train ride of 1 - 1 ½ hours, which is safe, comfortable, and stress free. The sea at Maremma is also an excellent day out from here.
In addition to the fascinating history of the region which, according to legend is traceable back to the Etruscans, there are many culinary delights to accompany you during your stay here, for example: Pecorino cheese from Pienza, olive oil from St. Quirico d'Orcia, Brunello of Montalcino and the mushrooms from the forests of the area and much, much more.
Rental Notes: Accommodation weeks run from Saturday to Saturday and include linen, water, electricity, and gas unless otherwise stated. Arrival times are between 4 pm – 8 pm and departure times are between 8 am – 11 am.
The heating costs and housekeeping fees are paid directly to the landlord and are dependent on usage please be aware heating costs are expensive in Italy.
Almost all landlords require a security deposit between 100 € and 250 €. The full balance of the deposit will be returned at the end of stay provided that the property is in the same condition as when you arrived and there are no damaged/ broken items.
All linens should be returned in the same number and conditions on departure if they are not the landlords have the right to keep the deposit at their discretion.
