Set in a private estate deep in the tranquil countryside, this is the perfect location for those that like to find their relaxation outdoors. The estate has a vineyard, orchard, arboretum, plantation, lakes, island, stream and as much wildlife as you can imagine. The lakes are stream-fed and contain substantial stocks of course fish, including the delicious Green Pike. Day tickets are available. The setting and tranquility lend themselves to artistic temperaments, one water-colourist painted here for a fortnight without using the same setting twice!

The gite has recently been converted from a cave and grenier. It is two-storey with a bedroom and bathroom upstairs and the lounge/diner and kitchen, downstairs. The terrasse is a suntrap beneath the huge Wisteria and is a wonderful outdoor seating area. The location is close to the safe sandy beaches and to the Vendeen capital, La Roche-sur-Yon as well as many tourist attractions.

The heritage and architecture in towns like Lucon and La Rochelle can be breath-taking - as can some of the bloody history, after all, Cardinal Richelieu was an adopted son of the town of Lucon. All sorts of sports are available nearby from parachuting to wind-surfing. We will happily investigate any specific requirements for you. The sailing centre of France is up the road in Les Sables d'Olonne, from where the Vendee Globe competitors set sail. Also in the same town is a lovely Zoo where you can see a wonderful range of animals while being shaded from the sun by the canopy of trees. If you prefer the Deep, by the old Port in La Rochelle, is a spectacular sea-life aquarium. Next year, 2005, the Tour de France competes its first four days here in the Vendee, a mobile extravagansa for everybody and it is all free!
