This large house is in a beautiful position, yet has shops and a pizzeria/trattoria & bar only 5 minutes walk away. It is set on the edge of a rural hillside village in Northern Tuscany. 10km NE of Bagni di Lucca, with supermarkets & most facilities, 40 Km NE of Lucca, all facilities, 65 km NE of Pisa (airport).
A south facing sun terrace with fabulous views looks out over a very private pool, while a shady loggia offers al fresco dining. The house is the perfect retreat from the pace of modern life, but you can still access the famous sights of Tuscany. You will be renting directly from us, the owners. Price are given below. The pool is unheated and is normally available from the 3rd week in May until the end of September. Loungers have adjustable sun shades.
The views from this house are stunning, with soft green fields reaching up to hills and mountains, and the sound of goat bells and birds in the air.
The house stands on the hillsides above the river Lima, it is about 100 years old, but has been updated to suit modern tastes. The house is light & airy with traditional stone walls, tiled floors and shuttered windows. It has the original spacious well proportioned rooms & king sized double beds. There is 207 sq metres of living space. Sitting room has DVD/CD player, & radio.
The village has a general stores, butcher, trattoria/pizzeria/bar, a church & a post office. The picturesque historic spa town of Bagni di Lucca is aprox 15 mins away, Lucca about 1 hr away, Pisa 1.20 & Florence 1.5 hrs.
Low cost airlines Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2, Thomsonfly, & First Choice currently fly to Pisa as well as BA, & Britannia. They offer flights from Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bournemouth, Coventry, Doncaster, LDN Gatwick, Leeds/Brad, Liverpool, Manchester, N'castle, London Luton, London Stanstead, Nott'm East Mids. You could also fly to Florence which might widen your choice, but easiest drive to the house is from Pisa. Ryanair also fly from Brussels, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Girona (Barcelona) & Sardinia to Pisa.

The cobbled path up to the shops & trattoria is quite steep in parts. You can park level with the house & walk along a fairly flat path. Some of the path up to main car park is uphill. We manage OK!
Local activities in and around Bagni Di Lucca, Tuscany
Just 10 -15 minutes away lies pretty Bagni di Lucca, a thriving spa town in the 19th century, when Byron, Shelley and Browning were frequent visitors. Spa treatments, hot springs - highly recommended - are still available. (see links on this site). Lucca, a graceful medieval walled town, one hour away is a delight to visit with wonderful shops. Have a cycle around the walls, lovely view and flat to cyle on. Cycling is very popular in Lucca & much easier than driving around. Florence itself is only 1.5 hours’ drive away.
The Garfagnana national park is fabulous walking country. We have often seen eagles on our walks near the house, and even from our own terrace. There are lots of walking maps available for guests to use, as well as guides to the local area showing numbered walks. Guides to Pisa, the Uffizi Gallery, Lucca and Bagni di Lucca are also provided. The nearest beach is at Viareggio; about 90 minutes away.
Paragliding is a popular local sport.
One of the local restaurants offers cookery lessons which we can thoroughly recommend. We did a half day on traditional Tuscan food & had a lot of fun. We ate what we had prepared that evening in the restaurant & our other guests joined us. The timing of the courses can be arranged to suit your timetable and number of guests. Contact us well in advance if you would like a one-off or a course of lessons.
The local tourist information office is in Bagni di Lucca. Tel no. 0039 0583 805745 fax number 0039 0583 809937. They also offer an internet point for the public. For other tourist offices see links on this site.
The office is open every day from 9.30 to 12.30 monday, wednesday, thursday & Friday. It is housed in a recently restored building that is well worth a visit, and was Europe's first cassino. Roulette was invented in Bagni di Lucca.
The annual Puccini Festival near Viareggio includes well known operas every year. See links on this site for info.
Puccini Festival
Every summer there is an opera festival on the coast near Viareggio at Torre del Largo. Puccini was born in Lucca and wrote much of his work where the festival is held. Each season includes his most famous operas and arias performed performed by world class singers. The operas are staged a short distance from Pietrasanta where Michelangelo obtained & worked on his marble. The quarry is still in use today.
Hot spring water at a temperature of 54 degrees centigrade, thermal treatments and pool available. We have tried this in the winter & summer , definately worth a visit. Take your own dressing gown & slippers.
trains from Pisa airport to Bagni di Lucca (Fornali) are on this site. You can leave your car at the station & get to Lucca & Pisa for only a couple of euros. Then you could connect for Florence & save driving.
We are approx 1hr 15 mins from Pisa airport, north of Lucca. Bagni di lucca is nearest town. We have our own website with details of how to reach the village.

Rental Notes: Change over day is Saturday. To allow time for cleaning please arrive after 4 pm and leave before 10 am. Full conditions will be sent at time of enquiry inc. H&S advice. We offer £100 reduction on bookings over 1 week. We require a deposit of 30% of total cost to secure dates. You will receive bank details to pay into when you book. Everything else can be done by email. If you are booking within 2 months (60 days) of your stay, we require payment in full. Cancellation: The deposit is non-returnable. If you cancel 60 days before the start of your rental period the full rental charge must be paid. Linen is provided but guests need to provide own beach/pool towels. House & gardens are striclty no smoking. Welcome pack available.
You will have a 'house book' with the housekeeper Gina's number and lots of other useful info, she will not visit unless requested. Gina speaks English, the maids do not.
