Hollies Garden Studio, Wellow, nr Bath - Studio Maisonette in Renovated Victorian Cottage
Apartment with 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2, Garden
The Garden Studio (for two) and Holly Cottage (for four, see separate entry), are both 4* properties and are situated on opposite sides of the same property, parts of a newly renovated, 1860s' semi-detached cottage. Each has its own private garden. On the edge of Wellow, a quiet Somerset village, only 6 miles from the centre of Bath.
The situation is quite exceptional; the view from the main rooms is just idyllic, overlooking a medieval packhorse bridge and ford, with the murmur of the Wellow Brook, and fields and hills beyond.
Wellow is a small community that values an old-world, informal environment with no street lighting. There is trail horse riding in the unspoilt country byways and woodland. St. Julians is a fine 14th century church.
The Hollies Garden Studio is for two guests, though a sofabed can accommodate an extra two. The main room is open plan with a compact kitchen and a living room looking over the ford. The spacious shower room is on the ground floor, and the cosy double bedroom is upstairs.
It has been described as "a love-nest for two". It is, indeed, in a romantic situation.
The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, electric hob, combined oven/microwave/grill and washing machine. There is a range of books, maps, guidebooks. TV and a radio/CD player. A writing desk invites the creative urge
The Garden Studio has a Friday changeover, budget tariff and offers off- and mid-season short breaks. There is off-street parking for one car, and a private sitting area in the garden.
Because the garden is steeply terraced, we discourage children under 8 years. The Studio is non-smoking; no pets. The murmur of the Wellow Brook close by provides a relaxing backdrop. The stream is clean and safe for children’s paddling.
We provide a welcome basket of snacks, and offer a service to buy in up to 15 food items to get you through the first day or so. We will also cook your first supper for a modest charge when you arrive exhausted after a long drive!
The charges are budget rate, and off-season we offer weekend and midweek breaks, usually at not more than two weeks' notice.
The Hollies Garden Studio has a 4* Quality Rating from the English Tourist Authority. Wellow is at the southern end of the Costswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with beautiful lanes and woodland for peaceful walks. As a haven of tranquillity it is hard to beat.
The Fox & Badger pub nearby, offers good bar meals (occasional quizzes/bowls). The village shop has good wines, cheeses and local fare. Wellow is off the main roads, a tranquil haven, well placed for easy access to Bath, Bristol and the surrounding beautiful countryside.
