A beautifully restored farmhouse on a hill, retaining all the character and charm of rural France, converted into individually styled accommodation on the edge of a small farming hamlet and set within its own 3 acres of meadow and garden. On its own hill it has views across a rural idyll of undulating fields, woods, orchards and vineyards. Set back from the road and not overlooked, cars can be parked off the road and out of sight of the house.
The house is rustic in character with stone walls, wooden surfaces and terracotta tiles, keeping it cool in summer months. Central heating keeps it warm in the cooler months.
“……and, after a day’s exploring, a cold glass of local Sauvignon while looking at the sunset brings home a sense of joy and peace…..”I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know what a WONDERFUL time we had at your house. It was absolutely lovely, peaceful and serene.” (Visitor’s comment)

Originally a farmhouse and barn, it has been painstakingly restored. The barn is now the high ceilinged, oak-beamed living room with a minstrel’s gallery leading to the bedrooms. There is a large kitchen and the number of other rooms provide a variety of accommodation for 6 people but is also just as nice for 2. Each room has its own individuality with doors and french windows giving access to the outside.
There are poplars, fruit trees, and bamboo. A hedge with a wooden door encloses a “breakfast” garden outside the kitchen. An old wisteria grows along the veranda, providing shade for sitting or eating outside. A weeping willow makes a focal point beside the covered “sunset” patio. There is a tin bath and outside shower for cooling off when it’s hot. There is also a barbecue, garden furniture and a hammock.
In the garden there is plenty of nature, this is rural France! There are birds, butterflies, lizards sunning themselves, tiny green tree frogs, small preying mantis and the occasional toad. Frogs can sometimes be heard against a background of cicadas and harmless bats can flicker swiftly through the garden on a summer’s evening. Wildflowers include orchids, ladysmock, vetches, violets down by the small river, poppies, cow parsley and buttercups in the fields.
The house is near Duras in Lot-et-Garonne and the nearest small airport is BERGERAC (half an hours drive) with flights from Stansted, East Midlands, Bristol & Liverpool (Ryanair); Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Southampton and Exeter, (Flybe). Flights to BORDEAUX (one and a half hours drive) are available from Birmingham and Manchester (Bmibaby); Gatwick (British Airways); Bristol and Luton (Easyjet) Southampton (Flybe). Travelling here is now really easy! Travelling here for a break is now really easy!
The owners have an English agent who lives locally and will help with any problems when the owners are not available.

The roads are small and quiet, and there is no sound of distant motorways. The countryside is beautiful and the villages picturesque. This is an area renowned for its wine and food which can be experienced in well priced restaurants or excellent produce can be bought in local markets and shops. There are chateaux, old churches, caves, rivers and famous vineyards (St. Emilion, Pomerol, Monbazillac, Bergerac, Cotes de Duras).
The local farms grow a variety of crops. There is wonderful blossom in the orchards in spring and later harvests of plums, grapes, maize or sunflowers. Each farm has vines which are good to walk through. At the top of the hamlet is a forest for longer walks (in September there are Cepes and Truffles – if you can find them!)
Activities: For golf, there is an 18 hole course at Chateau des Vigiers, Monestier (25km), 9 holes at Golf de Barthe, Tombeboeuf (25km), and 10 holes at Golf de Marmande (20km).
