Lion sur mer is a small village on the Côte de Nacre (Mother of Pearl coast) of Normandy. The apartment is in the centre of the village on a semi-pedestrianised street 100 meters from the beach. Lion is 15 minutes drive from the car ferry port in Ouistreham that Brittany Ferries serve three times a day from Portsmouth. Lion is close to Caen and Bayeux and was one of the Normandy landing beaches. The sandy beach is gently sloping and ideal for families with small children.
There is a traditional boulangerie/patisserie in the same street as well as a small supermarket, a laundrette, a pharmacy, a tourist office and a post office with cash machine in the village. There are also several restaurants, creperies and a pizzeria in the village. Enjoy a three course menu featuring local shellfish and regional specialities starting at €14.50.

Local activities in and around Caen, Normandy
Local sporting facilities include a tennis complex five minute's walk away, a sailing school in the village, 27 hole golf course 15 minute's drive away (Golf de Caen), Equestrian Centre in Ouistreham.
In the summer the local council organises free concerts, evening markets on the sea front, a Fete Normande and other free activities. If night life is what interests you there are casinos in Ouistreham and Luc sur mer and a disco in Ouistreham.
Ideas for trips further afield include the town of Caen is the capital of Lower Normandy and is 20 minutes drive away. It offers a huge Sunday morning market, hypermarkets, the ducal castle and two abbeys built by William the Conqueror, as well as the Memorial and Museum of the Second World War.
The largely unspoilt mediaeval town of Bayeux with its immense Gothic cathedral and the unique Bayeux tapestry is half an hour's drive away. The landing beaches of the Normandy coast, including the remains of the Mulberry harbour at Arromanche-les-Bains, and Pegasus Bridge.
The picturesque resorts of Honfleur, Deauville and Trouville further along the coast. Canoeing, climbing and paragliding in the Suisse Normande. Mont-Saint Michel is less than two hours away by car.

The city of Caen is twenty minute's drive from Lion sur mer and is the capital of Lower Normandy. It is both a commercial centre and a major tourist attraction in its own right.
