Bulgaria is tucked in by the Black Sea with Romania to the north and Greece and Turkey to the south. Its climate is temperate, characterized by damp winters and hot dry summers. Its capital is Sofia, the official language is Bulgarian and the locals spend the Lev. The country offers beautiful mountainous scenery and there are fine sandy beaches on the Black Sea coast. Bulgaria has a large number of travel destinations although independent travel is not all that common. You will find ski resorts, deep forests, ancient monuments and evidence of Greek and Roman occupation.
Holiday accommodation in Bulgaria can be surprisingly varied. You can have a choice of a modern apartment in a complex with a shared pool, or a self-catering holiday cottage or bungalow in a quieter, more rural surrounding. There are larger holiday villas available and even a selection of ski chalets in Bulgaria.
