The Alabaster Coast gets it name from the chalk cliffs and the milky water that characterises the coast between Le Havre (the harbour) and Treport. The Seine is crossed three times by spectacular road bridges along the road from Le Havre to Rouen, which was founded at the lowest point the river could be bridged at that time. The magnificent cathedral at Rouen is a Gothic masterpiece, dominated by its west façade made famous by Monet. Many of the cathedral’s riches are only accessible by guided tour, such as the tomb of Richard the Lionheart whose heart was buried there. Dieppe is a major port with a ferry link to the UK. |
