The town of Wicklow and its harbour, lying 25 miles south of Dublin have been a favourite with tourists and Dubliners for many years due to the stretches of sandy beaches, which run down the coast. Holiday cottages and apartments are always popular here for the same reason. Meath (from the Gaelic for the middle) is inland and west of Dublin, and was the home of the King of Ireland. The castle at Slane is an impressive sight. Self-catering holiday are also available and provide affordable accommodation for those on a tighter budget.
Meath:
Holiday cottages in this region allow the visitor to choose between a day relaxing at the beach at the seaside village of Blackrock, or a trip to Dundalk for shopping, swimming, eating out or exploring. The natural beauty of the undulating valleys and scenic mountains is an attraction all to itself.
Wicklow:
If you want to explore little villages, there are a lot to choose from in the Wicklow Mountains and in the valleys, of which Ballykissangel is probably the most famous. In each you can be assured of good food and drink and a warm welcome. The blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is a swathe of golden sand and clear sea. The hustle and bustle of Dublin is close enough for easy access but far enough away to preserve the tranquillity of Wicklow.
