| The capital of Morocco, the city of Marrachech is known as the red city because of the colour of the local earth used in its construction. Marrakech is the top tourist destination due to its year round warm climate and attracts many visitors throughout the year to its shores. A city rich in history and culture, it is a mixture of alleyways, lovely buildings, museums, mosques and markets and has a number of places of interest that attracts holidaymakers. The Koutoubia, a 12th-century mosque, is as tall as the towers of Nôtre Dame and dominates all the Marrakech skyline whilst Djemmaa-el-Fna (Place of the Dead), is a city square that is always crowded with dancers, fortune-tellers, musicians, acrobats, storytellers and snake charmers, and is an exciting place where something is always going on.
Other interesting spots to visit are the magnificent Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, the Dar Sisaid Museum, the Menara and Aquedal gardens and the charming camel market. Holidaymakers will enjoy discovering the history behind the city of Marrachech and with a large number of restaurants and cafes are encouraged to sample the local cuisine.
