| The Portuguese island of Madeira is fast becoming on of Portugal’s top tourist destinations and it is easy to see why. The island is full of many historical monuments, squares and streets in the capital of Funchal to enchanting gardens, picturesque villages, amazing landscapes, impressive volcanic caves, rugged coastlines, and beautiful natural beaches.
The golden beach of Porto Santo is regarded as the best beach on the island and attracts the bulk of visitors whilst those looking for nature need only visit the Volcanism Centre in São Vicente which is famous for its volcanic hills, green forests and all round natural beauty. The island is also home to a number of churches of architectural importance including Sé Cathedral whilst the area is also home to a number of beautiful gardens and parks.
Other cities worth a visit in the area include Santa Cruz, Santana & Porto Moniz.
