| The South of England covers the regions of East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey and of course London. London is the capital of England and indeed the capital of the UK. London is built on the banks of the River Thames, with it’s prominent features such as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the O2 Arena (previously the millenium dome). The South East is famous for it’s Oasthouses beautifully converted barns. East and West Sussex offer the well known destinations of Brighton & Hove, Eastbourne and of course Hastings, famous for the battle of Hastings in 1066. Kent is the last county in England before mainland France, with it’s main port being Dover. Kent is home to several well known places such as Canterbury, Maidstone, Margate and Tunbridge Wells. Surrey is home to London Gatwick Airport and of course places like Guildford with it’s old castles and the stunning Guildford Cathedral. A trip down the River Wey, will see you come in to the pretty canal side town of Farncombe, with it’s narrow boats and it’s neighbouring town of Godalming.
