| The provinces of Galicia and Asturias make up this corner of Spain, believed by the Romans to be the edge of the world. It was widely known in the Middle Ages for the Route of St James and modern pilgrims still flock to the city of Santiago. A lush mountainous region, its coastline has spectacular flooded valleys (rias) and is rich in seafood. La Coruña, Vigo, Pontevedra and Lugo have well preserved ancient quarters with Roman walls and cathedrals. The Costa Verde extends along the north coast and includes the port of Gijon. |
